CREATING A NEW FUTURE FOR HARWOOD QUARRY

Harwood Quarry has played a pivotal role in servicing the local and regional construction industry since the 1800s. It’s helped build thriving communities and employment for generations.

Whilst the quarry continues to provide quality brick-making shale, we’re committed to resolving and mitigating potential impact on local communities and the future restoration and crucial redevelopment of the area.

With the restoration of Harwood Quarry, we are able to recover materials from local construction developments which would otherwise go to landfill. This sustainable approach allows us to contribute to a circular economy whilst restoration of the landscape takes place.

It’s our duty to create a sustainable environment that will enable wildlife and communities to flourish for many years to come.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR THE LOCAL COMMUNITY

Our quarry is a part of a working landscape that enables us to harness essential minerals for the UK building and construction market. It’s crucial we respect the land and the lives of the people in our local community and do all we can to minimise the impact quarrying has on our environment.

We’re committed to creating safe quarrying practices and work with environmental regulators to develop green restoration plans. Our operations looks to repurpose and recycle soil from construction developments to sustainably replenish landscapes far quicker than traditional methods.

WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD?

Our vision is focused on creating a legacy that our community can be proud of. Historically, we will be known for our contribution to the development of British construction, but our restoration scheme will generate meaningful net gains in biodiversity and habitats across the site.

Our restoration plans include an aftercare programme that will combine habitat improvements with landscaping to create stunning nature trails, ensuring the site is fully repurposed as a space that can be enjoyed by local wildlife and the community.
